Nick was known as the “grumpy-goo” in his town. He was quiet and didn’t like others. The only thing he liked and wanted was a peaceful walk to school while listening to his music.
But, uh-oh, his next-door neighbour, Jessica, never knew this.
Jessica was a fun, smiley, chatty Cathy, and she joined Nick on his walks. Every. Single. Day.
Every time Nick would leave for his walks, Jessica was there. She would link her arm with his, and instead of music, Nick would hear Jessica say: “Let’s walk.”
They would walk, Jessica would talk, and others would gawk.
Nick did not like this. Not one bit. But he also did not like talking to others, so he was stuck.
So every day, whether it rained, snowed, or the sun was shining, Jessica would link her arm with Nick’s and say: “Let’s walk.”
Sometimes, Nick tried to hide. Sometimes, he’d even try to run, and sometimes he would dress in a disguise. But unfortunately for Nick, Jessica would still link their arms, and with a big smile, say... you guessed it, “Let’s walk.”
As each day passed, Nick was getting angrier and angrier. His face was so red that it looked like a giant tomato with hair. “Something had to change,” he thought.
The next morning, Nick left his house to walk to school and... Jessica was not there. His frown then slowly turned upside down, and his face was no longer a giant tomato.
He was finally alone, listening to his music and walking to school. It was perfect, or so he thought.
After only a few minutes, he looked to his left and looked to his right, but no one was there. He even tried listening to everything but his own music, but unfortunately, he could not hear Jessica. His smile disappeared.
Nick missed Jessica. But she was gone, nowhere to be found.
Now, Nick, the “grumpy-goo,” liked absolutely nothing. Not even his walks to school.
The next morning, Nick was getting ready for his walk. But this time, with no music and no Jessica. Just a tear in his eye.
As he set off on his walk, Nick saw a young girl who was lost and sad. He wiped away his tear and decided to extend his hand to the girl and say: “Let’s walk.”
They both walked, Nick talked, and others gawked.
In the end, Nick was smiling, and he was happy because he finally realised he got his nice, peaceful walk to school.
THE END
